Analysis of Sublimation Transfer Digital Printing Technology

Core Tip: Textile digital printing is becoming more and more mature and is eroding the traditional screen printing market. With the emergence of more and more flat-panel printers and professional printing machines on the market, the digital printing market has drawn people to a beautiful blueprint for making fortune. However, due to the cumbersome equipment and processing procedures required for professional digital printing, the effect of printing is not satisfactory, so that personalized digital printing has been unable to find an entry point.


As a result, many people are not familiar with digital printing and want to use flat-panel printers to print pigments and even dye inks to obtain qualified printed products. However, if professional fabric processing is not available, it is difficult to obtain satisfactory results. This is mainly because fabrics need to be used after pretreatment and post-treatment.  

The most mature technology of digital printing is sublimation transfer digital printing, but is often overlooked, which is the use of thermal transfer ink through any inkjet printer, mainly piezoelectric ink jet printer. After heating up to 180°C, the pattern was transferred to the fabric. Sublimation transfer printing digital printing effect is excellent, mainly because the pattern will not be blurred due to ink drift, but also the bright colors of the dye and washing fast.

Sublimation transfer printing digital printing is mainly used for chemical fiber or blended fabrics, it cannot print on pure cotton. As a digital printing of pure cotton products, textile printing pigment ink is the best choice at present, but it is generally required to perform special pre-treatment on the cotton fabric to reduce the ink soaking, prevent the picture from being blurred, and then after high-temperature steam fixing. However, the use of textile pigment inks for digital printing cannot achieve the effect of thermal transfer.


At present, the technology that is used for digital printing on a large scale for commercial and industrial use is mainly dye-sublimation transfer printing, and it has become popular around the world in the last year.

This is mainly due to the low price of thermal transfer ink introduced by China, which makes the cost of large-scale digital printing no longer expensive. In the past, it was mainly monopolized by a U.S. company and a South Korean company. The price was high, and the cost for high-volume printing could not come at all. Therefore, the intention to engage in digital printing industry can consider the use of thermal transfer and textile pigment direct injection, after all, chemical fiber products account for the largest proportion.
